COUNTER.NEWS
A comprehensive guide to the platform — what it is, how it works, who it's for, and how it evolved from a WordPress site into a fully AI-powered news intelligence platform.
What Is Counter.News?
"Truth over narrative."
Counter.News is an independent news analysis platform built around a single principle: truth over narrative. Rather than simply republishing headlines, every article on the platform is enriched with AI-powered analysis — trust scores, bias detection, fact-check summaries, tone indicators, and logical fallacy detection — so readers can evaluate information critically rather than consume it passively.
The platform is designed for readers who want depth. Every article includes an interactive AI Discussant that readers can engage with to ask questions, explore perspectives, and go deeper on any topic.
For Readers
Access in-depth articles with AI analysis, engage with the AI Discussant, react to content, and share articles with your network.
For Researchers
Filter by category, tag, or cluster. Use the AI chat to explore nuance and cross-reference multiple sources and perspectives.
For Administrators
A full-featured control panel for content management, analytics, security, SEO, and AI tooling — all in one place.
Navigating the Site
Platform Sections
Homepage
The main article feed. Articles are displayed in a responsive grid with filtering by category, tag, or content cluster. A search bar allows keyword filtering. Ads are interspersed contextually. Infinite scroll loads more articles as you reach the bottom.
Article Pages
Each article displays its full content with AI-enhanced formatting, a featured image or blueprint placeholder, publication metadata, categories, and tags. Below the article: the AI Discussant chat, a Reader Poll (AI-generated, gold-highlighted), an Article Context panel with background points, timeline, and key figures, reactions, sharing tools, related articles, and trending content.
Categories
A dedicated page for browsing all content organized by topic. Clicking any category filters the homepage feed. Category clusters allow grouping related categories into broader topics (e.g., "World Affairs" may cluster multiple regional categories).
Contact
A contact form for readers to submit tips, advertising inquiries, support requests, or general feedback. All submissions are stored and managed in the admin panel.

How to Use Counter.News
A better way to read the news.
Step 1 — Find an Article
Use the homepage to browse the latest articles. Filter by category using the tag pills at the top, search by keyword, or browse by content cluster. Scroll down to load more content automatically.
Step 2 — Read and Analyze
Click any article to open it. Read the full content, then scroll to the AI Analysis panel to review the trust score, bias indicator, tone, detected logical fallacies, key claims, and journalistic strengths and weaknesses — all generated automatically by AI for every article.
Step 3 — Chat with the AI Discussant
Directly below each article, the AI Discussant chatbot is available to every reader — no account required. This is not a generic chatbot: it is pre-loaded with the full article content, AI analysis, key figures, background context, and timeline data for that specific article.
How to use it effectively:
- Ask follow-up questions about claims made in the article
- Request simpler explanations of complex topics
- Challenge a specific point and see how the AI responds
- Ask for historical context, related events, or key definitions
- Explore different perspectives on a controversial issue
How this trains the data matrix: Every conversation you have with the AI Discussant is recorded and analyzed. The platform extracts key topics discussed, questions asked, reader sentiment, and content suggestions from each session. This data feeds directly into the Content Intelligence layer — an aggregate map of what readers are curious about, what topics generate the most engagement, and what content gaps exist. Admins use this to guide editorial decisions and improve future AI analysis.
Step 4 — Vote on the Reader Poll
Each article features an AI-generated Reader Poll — displayed in a gold-highlighted block below the article content. The poll presents a binary question derived from the article's central tension or key debate.
How polls work:
- Click your preferred option — votes are recorded instantly
- Results display as a live percentage bar showing community sentiment
- Anonymous users vote once per session; logged-in users once per article
- Poll questions and options are AI-generated based on article content
How polls feed the data matrix: Poll vote distributions reveal community-level opinion on key issues. Over time, aggregate poll data across articles creates a measurable signal of reader sentiment on topics like policy, science, politics, and more — forming a structured opinion dataset that shapes content strategy and AI-generated context.
Step 5 — Explore Article Context
Below the poll, an Article Context block provides AI-generated supplementary material:
- Background Points: Key facts needed to understand the article
- Chronological Timeline: A historical sequence of related events leading up to and following the article's topic
- Key Figures: The people and organizations central to the story
This enrichment data is AI-generated per article and stored as structured records — making it queryable and reusable across the platform's intelligence systems.
Step 6 — React and Share
Express your reaction with Like, Insightful, or Bookmark. Share articles using the native share button (mobile) or copy-link button. Use the Tags section at the bottom to explore related content by topic.
Step 7 — Explore Related & Trending Content
At the bottom of each article, find Related Articles (matched by category and tag overlap) and Trending This Week (ranked by recent visit counts). These are computed in real time from platform analytics.
The Data Intelligence Matrix
Platform Intelligence
Every interaction trains the system.
Counter.News is not a static publishing platform — it is a continuously learning intelligence system. Every reader interaction contributes to a growing data matrix that makes the platform smarter over time. Here's how each component feeds into it:
AI Discussant Conversations
Every chat session is stored and analyzed. The platform auto-extracts: topics discussed, questions asked, reader sentiment, and content suggestions. Admins review these in the AI Interactions tab and the Content Intelligence panel.
Poll Vote Data
Each poll vote is a structured data point: article ID, question, option chosen, and timestamp. Over hundreds of articles, this builds a measurable map of community opinion on key issues — sortable, filterable, and exportable.
Reader Reactions & Behavior
Likes, bookmarks, scroll depth, time-on-page, and visit frequency are tracked per article. This behavioral data drives the Trending algorithm and informs which topics resonate most with the audience.
How Admins Access the Intelligence Layer

→ Admin → Insights tab: Full analytics suite — visit trends, device types, top pages, referrer sources, unique visitor geography, and article-level engagement metrics.
The Counter.News Story
Platform History
From a WordPress blog
to an AI-powered news platform.
Counter.News didn't start as a sophisticated AI platform. It evolved through distinct phases, each building on lessons learned from the last. Here's the full timeline.
Where It All Started
Counter.News began as a traditional WordPress installation — a widely-used content management system that provided a solid foundation for publishing articles, managing categories and tags, and supporting basic SEO. WordPress offered a familiar admin interface and a broad plugin ecosystem.
However, as the platform's ambitions grew, WordPress's limitations became increasingly apparent: performance bottlenecks under load, difficulty building custom AI-powered features, plugin dependency sprawl, database query inefficiencies, and the inability to deeply integrate modern AI tooling without significant custom development overhead.
The decision was made: Counter.News needed a platform built for the future, not patched from the past.
From WordPress to Base44
The migration to Base44 marked a fundamental shift in how Counter.News was built and operated. Base44 provided a serverless architecture with a built-in database, authentication system, backend functions, AI integrations, and a React-based frontend — all in a unified platform.
Article content was migrated from WordPress, slugs and metadata were preserved, and featured images were re-hosted on the platform's CDN. The migration was not just a technology swap — it was a complete architectural rebuild that unlocked capabilities that simply weren't possible on WordPress.
Key Migration Wins
- Eliminated plugin dependencies and maintenance overhead
- Gained direct database access with real-time queries
- Enabled custom backend functions for AI and external integrations
- Full control over design, UX, and data architecture
Foundation — Core Platform Build
The first phase focused on establishing the essential infrastructure of the platform:
- Core article CRUD (create, read, update, delete) with a full admin panel
- Article display pages with categories, tags, and author metadata
- Homepage with article grid and basic category filtering
- Role-based authentication (admin vs. reader)
- Visit tracking for basic analytics
- Contact form with admin inbox
- Foundational SEO: meta titles, descriptions, Open Graph tags
- Featured image management with CDN hosting via upload
Engagement & AI Integration
With the core in place, Phase 2 focused on making the platform smarter and more engaging:
- AI Article Reformatting: A 2-step AI pipeline to restructure raw content into clean, readable HTML with proper heading hierarchy and bold formatting
- Reader Reactions: Like, Insightful, and Bookmark reactions replacing traditional comment systems
- Category Clusters: Groupings of related categories for thematic content discovery
- Advanced Admin Content Tools: Bulk category/tag renaming, AI-assisted editing, and the full article edit page
- Ads System: Grid ads, banner ads, and embed widget support
- Ping Services: Automated search engine notification on article publish
- AI SEO Generation: Automated meta titles, descriptions, keywords, and JSON-LD structured data
- Social Media Integration: Auto-posting to X (Twitter) on article publication
Advanced Intelligence & Security
Phase 3 elevated Counter.News from a news platform to a news intelligence platform:
- AI Discussant: A fully interactive AI agent on every article page that readers can converse with — no login required
- AI Article Analysis: Trust scores, bias indicators, tone detection, fact-check summaries, logical fallacy detection, key claims extraction, and reader advisories
- Content Intelligence: Aggregate analysis of all reader-AI conversations to surface trending topics, content gaps, and common reader questions
- Bot Detection & Security Suite: Real-time bot traffic logging, IP blacklisting, auto-block rules, security alerts, and a 404 tracker
- Unique Visitor Tracking: GeoIP-based visitor intelligence with country, city, and device data
- Enhanced Analytics: Multi-tab analytics dashboard with visit trends, device breakdowns, referrer analysis, and article-level performance
- Grid Video Support: MP4 video display in article cards for richer visual storytelling
- Reader Poll: AI-generated engagement polls on every article with real-time vote counts and visual results
- Article Enrichment: AI-generated background context, chronological timelines, key figures, and related article linking — displayed below each article
Continuous Evolution
Counter.News continues to evolve. The platform's architecture is designed to grow — new AI models can be swapped in, new entity types can be added without database migrations, and new features can be deployed as backend functions without touching the core infrastructure.
The mission remains the same: Unveiling Truth, Shaping the Future.
